The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority will hold two public hearings in New Britain and Hamden as part of its review of utility tree trimming plans.
Following the major power outages in 2011, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy called on utilities Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating to enhance their tree trimming and vegetation management in order to cut down on the number of outages caused by trees and branches falling on electricity lines and other infrastructure.
Now that CL&P and UI are implementing these new plans, residents with strong attachments to trees are objecting to the plan, calling it excessive.
PURA is holding the public hearings to see if new requirements for tree trimming must be put in place.
The first public hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at PURA’s office at 10 Franklin Square in New Britain. That hearing follows a 3 p.m. technical meeting where CL&P will discuss its tree plans.
The second hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hamden Middle School Auditorium at 2623 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden. UI will present its plan at that hearing.
