Pullman & Comley attorney named chair of CT legal associations

Attorney Alan J. Sobol of Pullman & Comley LLC in Hartford has been elected as chair of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section and has also been appointed as chair of the Hartford County Bar Association’s Criminal Law Committee.

For the past two years Sobol has served as vice-chair of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section.

He will continue the section’s mission to provide a forum for judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys to exchange ideas regarding criminal law, present speakers to the section on topics that impact the practice of criminal law, and provide input to the state and federal legislatures regarding proposed bills affecting criminal law.

Webster Bank recognized for social media efforts

Waterbury regional ledner Webster Bank has been ranked one of the top 50 “Community Bank Leaders in Social Media” by the Independent Community Bankers of America. Webster is the only Connecticut bank to earn this distinction.

In addition, Dawn Melesko, Webster’s vice president of social media, was named to the ICBA’s list of top 25 “Community Banker Influencers” on Twitter. This is the second consecutive year she has received this honor.

Demers named to top 100 U.S. QuickBooks ProAdvisor list

Carla Demers, owner of Demers Accounting Services in Brooklyn, has been named to the 2014 “Top 100 QuickBooks ProAdvisor”list by Intuitive Accountant, a publication serving small businesses.

With more than 80,000 Intuit QuickBooks ProAdvisors nationwide, this puts Demers in the top 1 percent of her peers.

MDC’s Controller Honored for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Carol A. Fitzgerald, controller of The Metropolitan District, was presented with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for her work in preparing MDC’s 2012 comprehensive annual financial report.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. MDC is a nonprofit municipal corporation in Hartford chartered by the state legislature.

Hospital cancer program earns gold-standard accreditation

The cancer program at The Hospital of Central Connecticut has earned a three-year accreditation with commendations from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

The commission praised the program’s outstanding work in the areas of clinical trials, cancer registrar education, public reporting of outcomes, nursing care, data quality and accuracy.

The HOCC cancer program had to meet or exceed 34 quality care standards while being evaluated every three years to earn its voluntary accreditation.
