Public safety employees to rally

The unions representing the state’s public safety employees will rally tomorrow at the State Capitol in advance of a planned vote on further state budget cuts.

The Connecticut Public Safety Employee Coalition, which represents nearly 10,000 state employees — including judicial marshals, corrections officers, police officers, firefighters and others — will hold a rally and legislative lobby day Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. on the north steps of the State Capitol in Hartford.

The group of unionized workers plans to emphasize the message that mass layoffs and cuts to vital public services will make the state “more dangerous and less law-abiding.”

After the rally and speaking program, coalition members will lobby state legislators and urge them to oppose harmful service cuts and layoffs, and to make better choices to raise revenues needed to protect public services.
