Proud Pratt’s PurePower on Time’s “50 Best”

On top of overflowing airline orders, Pratt & Whitney Co.’s more than $1 billion investment in its PurePower geared turbofan has also bought it recognition on Time magazine’s “50 Best Inventions of 2011.”

The weekly magazine gushes that the PurePower is “the most important development in aviation” this year.

Like a proud parent, East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp., was in a boastful mood Monday.

“Our PurePower engine is driving tremendous change to the aviation industry in terms of fuel efficiency, reducing pollution and noise, and driving down maintenance and operating costs for airlines,” Pratt President David Hess said in a statement. “Airlines are replacing their fleets to capitalize on the many advantages that this technology provides. There is no better example of the power of this innovation than that.”
