Proton Energy Systems Announces $1 Million Scholarship Program

Global hydrogen energy leader Proton Energy Systems in Wallingford recently announced it is launching a $1 million scholarship program aimed at high school seniors across the nation.

The Proton Energy Scholarship will recognize and award high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding achievement, excellence and promise in the field of science or technology, and who plan to pursue higher education in this field.

The scholarship program is supported and funded by Tom Sullivan, owner of Proton Energy and founder of the national chain Lumber Liquidators. The scholarship will award four-year undergraduate scholarship prizes with a total value of up to $100,000 each.

Honorable Mentions, Proton Energy Achievers, will be awarded $500 prizes. Sullivan has committed $1 million to the Hydrogen Education Foundation (HEF), who is administering the scholarship program.

The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy has launched the “2009 Ways to Share … A Holiday Wish List” to kick off this year’s giving season. Ways to Share lists the needs of children, families and adults served by 247 Connecticut nonprofits in an online database that can be searched by name, location and type of service provided.

Each entry provides a brief description of the nonprofit organization and its work, the population it serves, contact information and a list of special items or volunteers they are looking for to make the holidays happier for the people they serve. TD Bank, through the TD Charitable Foundation, recently donated nearly $9,000 to the Imagine Nation Children’s Museum as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community.

The Imagine Nation Children’s Museum is a member of the United Way of West Central Connecticut and is a division of the Boys & Girls Club and Family Center of Bristol. The funds will help the museum expand its Early Learning programs through the enhancement of the Greenhouse Exhibit, where children in grades prekindergarten through fifth can learn about science in a fun and stimulating atmosphere.

The second annual J.H. Cohn Bowl-A-Thon benefiting the Metro New York, Hudson Valley, and Connecticut chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, one of the firm’s Cohn for Kids-supported charities, raised approximately $45,000, bringing the total raised by the New York and Connecticut Bowl-A-Thon over the past two years to $105,000.
