Meriden’s Protein Sciences Corp. said federal regulators have approved its influenza vaccine, Flublok, for all people over the age of 18.
Flublok was previously not approved for those 50 and over, an age group that is at higher risk for health complications from the flu, the company said.
The approval comes during the earlier part of the flu season, which typically runs from October to May.
Unlike flu vaccines made by a number of pharma giants, Flublok doesn’t contain egg proteins, antibiotics, or the flu virus itself.
