For-profit hospital operator Prospect Medical Holdings on Wednesday named Peter Adamo president and CEO of Waterbury Hospital and the Greater Waterbury Health Network, effective Aug. 18.
Adamo succeeds Lester Schindel, who had been serving as interim CEO. Prospect said Schindel will serve as executive vice president of the Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) of New York.
Adamo most recently served as regional CEO for Roxborough Memorial and Suburban Community Hospitals in Philadelphia. He began his career at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and has held executive positions in hospitals and healthcare settings across the country.
He takes over a hospital that lost $16.5 million in fiscal 2016, according to a report from the state Office of Health Care Access. California-based Prospect acquired Greater Waterbury Health Network, which includes the hospital, last October after the fiscal year ended. It also acquired Eastern Connecticut Health Network, which includes Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals. ECHN also reported a multimillion-dollar deficit in fiscal 2016.
“I am committed to the strategy and direction that Lester and the team have established to strengthen this organization and enhance our mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective care to every patient,” Adamo said. “I am looking forward to being part of the GWHN family and a member of this community.”
