An Albanian man who owns a Prospect construction firm has won a stay of deportation, Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s office announced.
Valent Kolami, co-owner of A.V. Masonry LLC, came to the United States 13 years ago. Blumenthal, who worked to secure the stay, helped get a similar result in August for Kolami’s brother-in-law and business partner, Adrian Emin.
The two men were first detained by immigration in April 2012 and were held in Alabama.
Blumenthal said a comprehensive immigration reform bill would give the two men more permanent status and a pathway to citizenship.
