Propark Mobility CEO John Schmid steps down; his brother David Schmid named chief executive

John Schmid, the co-founder and CEO of Hartford-based Propark Mobility, one of the nation’s largest parking operators, is stepping down as head of the company after 40 years, as he passes the reins to his younger brother.

David Schmid will be the company’s new CEO effective immediately, Propark announced. Before his new role as CEO, David Schmid held positions as Propark Mobility’s chief operating officer and chief investment officer.

David Schmid has led mergers and acquisitions, as well as the development of Propark’s proprietary Cloudpark Technology, according to the company. He has also overseen Propark’s real estate division and its mobility and transportation divisions.

“From the beginning, Propark has been committed to creating a company environment that prioritizes the well-being and growth of our remarkable team members,” said David Schmid. “I wholeheartedly believe in the mission of Propark, and I look forward to continuing the legacy John has created. Through collaboration with our nationwide team and our collective passion for the parking industry, I know the future is bright for Propark.”

John Schmid will remain at Propark as the company’s executive chairman. He founded Propark in 1984 with his business partner, Joe Coppola.

The company began with a 60-space parking lot in Hartford — the site of its national headquarters — and has grown its nationwide presence over the last four decades, now operating over 750 locations in more than 100 cities.
