A prominent downtown East Hartford commercial building recently sold for $750,000 to a family investment group that has gained attention acquiring and redeveloping a string of apartment and mixed-use buildings in neighboring Hartford.
The Governors Building LLC — a limited liability company that lists Kavita Ahmed, of Bloomfield, as its principal — recently paid $750,000 for the 18,527-square-foot “Governor’s Corner” building on a little more than one-third of an acre at 991 Main St., in East Hartford.
The century-old, three-story building hosts a mix of office and retail space and is located at the corner of Governor and Main streets.
Ahmed and her son, Amber “Ace” Andaleeb,” have used various LLCs to purchase more than a dozen apartment and mixed-use buildings along Hartford’s challenged Albany Avenue over the last few years. Several have subsequently been redeveloped with upgrades to building facades and apartments.
Andaleeb Enterprises LLC — another entity listing Ahmed as principal — is partnering with the city of Hartford to transform dilapidated, fire-scared and abandoned properties at 270 Albany Ave. in Hartford into 40 apartments and 3,000 square feet of retail space. Hartford has granted Andaleeb Enterprises a long-term lease in exchange for the anticipated $10.8 million project.
Andaleeb said he has no plans to change the use of any portion of the recently purchased East Hartford building. He said he has confidence in demand for small office properties, which prompted the purchase.
The Governor’s Corner property sale was recorded on Dec. 29. The seller was Governor Building LLC, an entity whose principals include Eleanor Agnelli, Jeffrey Altman, Jill Altman, Mark Gordon and Mark Pollack.
The building last sold for $410,000 in 1994.
East Hartford Mayor Connor Martin headquartered his campaign in the Governor’s Corner building. On Tuesday, Martin said his office has not been approached by the new owners.
