A Waterbury oral surgery practice has joined a national network of dental specialty practices backed by New York private equity firm Centerbridge Partners.
Houston-based Specialty1 Partners announced Wednesday that it had formed a joint venture with Greater Waterbury Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, led by Dr. John J. Hillgen IV. Dr. Michael Caruso of Westchester Implant & OS also invested in the practice, according to the announcement.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Greater Waterbury Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, at 1389 West Main St., provides dental implants, bone grafting, wisdom tooth removal and treatment of facial injuries, among other services.
Specialty1 provides billing, human resources, information technology, marketing, credentialing, compliance and other back-office services to endodontic, oral surgery and periodontal practices. The Waterbury partnership brings its network to 226 locations in 29 states, with more than 350 specialists, the company said.
It is at least the second Connecticut practice to join Specialty1. The company previously announced a partnership with Fairfield County Implants & Periodontics, led by periodontists Dr. Michael Sonick and Dr. Rui “Ray” Ma.
Specialty1 was founded in 2019 as Endo1 Partners. Centerbridge lists Specialty1 among its private equity investments on its website.
The company has announced joint ventures this year with practices in Pennsylvania, Ohio and California.
