Budget grocer Price Rite Marketplace is preparing to open a new store along Waterbury’s Wolcott Street retail corridor, with an Oct. 1 launch date targeted.
According to a pending zoning application for beer sales, Elena S. Parson, a financial analyst with Price Rite parent company Wakefern Food Corp., said the company plans to debut its 34,000-square-foot store at 881 Wolcott St. “on or around Oct. 1.”
The space was most recently occupied by Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and is part of a retail plaza owned by a Monroe-based Tartaglia Commercial affiliate.
The new supermarket is expected to create about 60 jobs and feature a “wide selection of products,” including everyday groceries and club-sized items, Parson noted in the application.
The Wolcott Street corridor has historically been a hub for large-format grocery stores.
It lost an anchor in 2022 when an independently owned ShopRite at 943 Wolcott St., shut down. Earlier this year, Stop & Shop relocated from its longtime home at 920 Wolcott St., into the former ShopRite building, a 70,000-square-foot space directly across the street.
