Connecticut Light & Power encourages its business and residential customers to develop an emergency plan in case of a disaster, as part of September being National Preparedness Month.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says less than half of households have an emergency plan and 42 percent of people said they would need help in a disaster.
In addition to having a plan, CL&P suggests the creation of an emergency kit including water, food, flashlights, tools, maps, batteries and first aid supplies.
