Danbury industrial gas supplier Praxair Inc. signed a multi-year deal for high-purity hydrogen to Hemlock Semiconductor LLC’s new $1.2 billion polysilicon manufacturing facility being built in Clarksville, Tenn., to open in 2012.
Praxair agreed to build and operate an on-site hydrogen generating facility and supply liquid hydrogen by truck.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
Polysilicon is a key component of semiconductors and photovoltaic cells, both of which have seen an increase in global demand.
Praxair has a 35-year relationship with Hemlock that includes supplying nitrogen and hydrogen to its Hemlock, Mich., polysilicon facility, said Anne Roby, president of the Praxair Electronics division.
