Praxair China starts up gas plant

Danbury-based Praxair Inc. said today its China subsidiary has started up its separation plant to deliver gases to that nation’s largest producer of acetic acid.

Praxair China signed a contract in 2007 to run the plant for Jiangsu SOPO (Group) Co. Ltd., located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, northwest of Shanghai.

SOPO’s plant annually produces 600,000 tons of acetic acid widely used in the production of adhesives, textiles, paint, paper, polyester fiber and plastic bottles.

Praxair China’s plant supplies SOPO with 3,000 tons of oxygen per day.

Praxair will also be constructing another 3,000 tons of oxygen per day plant for a similar gasification application for HuaYi in Wuwei, Anhui province. That plant is due to begin operation in early 2011.
