East Hartford jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney Co. says its first components-production plant has opened in Singapore.
The 180,000-square-foot plant, located in the Seletar Aerospace Park, will make hybrid metallic blades and other key parts used in Pratt’s PurePower brand geared turbofan engines, said Danny Di Perna, Pratt operations senior vice president.
Di Perna said the plant, abutting Pratt’s engine-repair facility that opened in Seletar in 2014, is among the more than $1 billion Pratt has invested globally to create or modernize its manufacturing infrastructure. Both buildings are part of Pratt’s $110 million investment in the Seletar industrial park.
He said Pratt so far has about 7,000 orders and commitments for the PurePower from more than 70 customers worldwide.
Pratt said it has about 2,000 employees in Singapore, where it has had a presence for about three decades.
