Pratt wins F-16 pact worth up to $100M

The U.S. Air Force awarded East Hartford’s Pratt & Whitney a contract to maintain the engines from F-16 fighter jets from foreign military customers throughout the world, the San Antonio Business Journal reports.

Pratt will perform maintenance work on F100 military engines from a number of international customers, including Egypt, Jordan, Taiwan and Thailand.

Pratt employees at Port San Antonio will work on F100-PW-220 and F100-PW-229 engines, the paper said. Employees will make sure the fan, engine core, low-pressure and high-pressure turbine, and gearboxes are functioning properly.

The three-year contract in initially work $65 million. However, if the Air Force decided to extend Pratt & Whitney’s contract, the value of the contract could rise to $100 million.

In San Antonio, the company already is supporting U.S. military engine programs. Under this latest contract, the San Antonio facility will now support foreign military customers.
