Pratt & Whitney wins $115M federal contract to upgrade F135 engines

East Hartford-based aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney has been awarded a $115 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to upgrade jet engines.

Pratt & Whitney, part of Virginia-based Raytheon Technologies, won the $115 million contract last week to enhance its F135 engine. The company said the upgrades are a normal part of any major defense program, and that the F135 was due for updates.

According to information from Pratt, 85% of the contract work will be performed in East Hartford while the remaining 15% will be done in Indianapolis. The project is expected to be completed in September 2024.

Pratt & Whitney said that in just Connecticut, the F135 program supports more than 27,000 direct and indirect jobs and nearly 100 suppliers.
