Pratt & Whitney signs maintenance deal with Vietnam Airlines

East Hartford jet-engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney has inked a 12-year service agreement with Vietnam Airlines to provide comprehensive engine maintenance for 20 Airbus A321neo aircraft.

A Pratt spokesman declined to comment on how much the deal is worth, or how it compares to Pratt’s service agreements with other airlines.

Under the agreement, Pratt will provide Vietnam Airlines all maintenance for the Airbus planes for the next 12 years, including field engine service, customer training on the engines and other customer services. About half of Pratt’s customers are under a maintenance agreement with the company.

About two years ago, Pratt & Whitney signed a contract with Vietnam Airlines for geared turbofan engines to power 20 Airbus A321 twin-engine aircraft.

That deal, which included 40 engines, spares, and a 12-year maintenance agreement, was worth $1.5 billion to Pratt.

Meantime, Pratt signed a contract last month with the U.S. Pentagon to supply variations of its F135 jet engines powering warplanes for the U.S. military and allies.
