Pratt & Whitney says it has reached a tentative contract deal with machinists union

East Hartford jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney announced Friday that it has reached a “tentative agreement” on a revised contract offer to striking machinists.

In a statement, Pratt & Whitney said it resumed negotiations on Thursday with leaders representing more than 3,000 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) members, and that a tentative deal on a new contract had been reached.

The offer, terms of which were not disclosed, will be voted on by union members on Tuesday, May 27.

Some 77% of more than 3,000 union members voted to go on strike during a contract ratification meeting on May 4. The strike began at midnight that night.

Strikers have said their principal concerns in the contract are job security and pension guarantees. Union leaders had said the company was not willing to discuss its plans for keeping work in Connecticut as part of the contract negotiations.

According to Pratt & Whitney, its best and final offer prior to the strike included annual wage increases between 3% and 4% over the next three years, as well as a $5,000 bonus for ratifying the contract.
