Pratt & Whitney has been awarded a $670.2 million modification to a previously awarded contract for the F135 propulsion system.
The modification covers spares for the production and delivery of the system, which powers the F35 Lightning II Fighter.
The spares will include common components for the global spares pool, as well as country-specific spares. These will support the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, non-Department of War participants, F-35 Cooperative Program Partners, and foreign military sales customers.
The award of the modification comes just a few weeks after East Hartford-based Pratt landed a $2.8B contract to produce 141 F135 engines for U.S. services and U.S. allies, including three different variants.
That program is expected to sustain more than 67,000 jobs and 240 suppliers across the U.S., according to Pratt & Whitney.
Work on the spares modification will be carried out almost exclusively in Connecticut.
