Pratt & Whitney has announced investments totalling $200 million in facilities both in the U.S. and overseas.
The East Hartford-based jet engine maker said it’s expanding and enhancing three maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Texas, Florida and Arkansas, and expanding capacity at a parts manufacturing plant in Poland.
The U.S. investments are aimed at expanding maintenance capacity for the company’s geared turbofan (GTF) engine, including increasing the number of engines and parts processed, adding repair capabilities and introducing new technologies, the company said.
The GTF MRO network consists of 21 global engine centers and about 40 component repair facilities.
In Texas, Pratt & Whitney has opened a new 500,000-square-foot facility for its commercial serviceable assets business, which buys, sells and manages used material and engines. The company says the investment will increase stock by more than 60%, helping to reduce engine turnaround time.
In Florida, Pratt expanded its West Palm Beach Engine Center by approximately 50,000 square feet, increasing maintenance capacity by 40%. The site also added new equipment for engine assembly and disassembly, machining and testing.
In Arkansas, Pratt expanded its propulsion systems division by 7,000 square feet, providing additional space for commercial and military engine case repairs.
Pratt & Whitney's sites in Poland provide advanced manufacturing and technology development for commercial and military engines, turboprops and auxiliary power units, including engine components for the GTF, the F100 and the F135 fighter jet engine.
A $100 million investment in Rzeszów, Poland, will create a new facility that will house specialized capabilities for processing isothermally forged parts.
This expansion follows the recently announced $200 million investment in a seventh isothermal forging press at Pratt & Whitney's facility in Columbus, Georgia.
Poland represents RTX's largest investment and employee base outside the United States, with more than 9,400 employees across its Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon businesses.
