Pratt & Whitney Canada building aerospace center in Montreal

Pratt & Whitney Canada has announced it will open in fall 2009 a final-assembly and test facility at Montreal-Mirabel International Airport for its new generation of PW800 engines.

P&WC, a unit of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp., said it will invest a total $575.3 million  in the 300,000-square-foot Mirabel Aerospace Centre and P&WC’s other Quebec facilities in the next five years. The investment is expected to generate 565 jobs, Pratt said.

The announcement comes a week after the Quebec government announced that it would invest $141.9 million for infrastructure and equipment at Mirabel.

In a statement, P&WC President Alain M. Bellemare praised Quebec “for its vision and leadership in propelling the high-value aerospace industry.”
