East Hartford jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney announced it has acquired a Dutch company that has expertise in AI-assisted engine inspection software.
The software made by Amsterdam-based Aiir Innovations applies artificial intelligence to borescope video during engine inspections to deliver faster, more repeatable assessments, according to Pratt.
The company says it has applied the technology on its V2500 engine and recently completed pilots on the GTF and F135 engines. It plans to expand the use of the software across the company.
The technology’s artificial intelligence component adapts to feedback from inspectors to enhance performance over time. It allows processes to be completed more quickly with greater quality, consistency, traceability and accuracy, Pratt says.
"Broadening the integration of AI-assisted inspection capability strengthens our ability to detect issues earlier, improve turnaround times, increase time on wing and reduce operational disruption for our customers," said Rob Griffiths, senior vice president of commercial engines operations at Pratt & Whitney.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
