Pratt to eliminate 80 CT positions

East Hartford aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney said Wednesday it will reduce its Connecticut hourly workforce by 80 employees.

The reductions come as Pratt has completed its F119 engine program for the F-22 Raptor fighter jet. The company also has lower customer demand for its commercial engine overhaul and repair work, much of which is done at its Connecticut facilities.

Pratt first will try to achieve the reductions through voluntary separation offers under the collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Machinists. The remaining reductions will come through layoffs.

The voluntary separations will come from Pratt’s East Hartford and Middletown facilities while all the layoffs will come from East Hartford.

The company, a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp., expects to be completed with the reduction in the next two weeks.
