Pratt tests synthetic jet-engine oils

East Hartford jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney Co. says its testing has shown efficacy for one of a pair of synthetic jet-oil brands from ExxonMobil and French lubricants maker NYCO for Pratt’s PurePower engine.

Pratt said Monday that it’s on track to wrap its oil-testing program for all PurePower geared turbofan engine platforms by the end of 2017.

Pratt said the testing program is part of its multi-year technical and commercial agreements with ExxonMobil and NYCO.

The agreement with ExxonMobil covers the complete PurePower engine family for the Airbus A320neo, Bombardier C Series, Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Embraer’s second generation E-Jets, Irkut MC-21 series aircraft, and Gulfstream G500 and G600 business jets. The agreement with NYCO includes testing for the Airbus A320neo and Irkut MC-21.
