Jet-engine builder Pratt & Whitney Co. says it received a solid order for 120 and options for another 80 of its quiet, fuel-efficient geared turbofan engine for a fleet of Airbus A320neo aircraft ordered by one of the world’s biggest jetliner leasing firms.
Pratt didn’t specify contract terms with aircraft owner  International Lease Finance Corp. But with the engine priced at millions of dollars each, before spare parts and options, the pact’s value is sure to extend into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Deliveries will begin in 2016.
Each of the 60 Airbus A320neos ILC has on order — plus options for 40 more — will fly with two PurePower PW1100G engines. Pratt has invested more than $1 billion and 20 years of research and development to make the geared turbofan motor its launchboard back into the lucrative jetliner market.
Pratt says it so far has more than 800 PW1000G engines on order, including options. Â
