Pratt, Proton execs named to Commerce panel

Top ranking executives from East Hartford jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney and Wallingford air generator manufacturer Proton Onsite were named to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Manufacturing Council for the year to advise the federal government on ways to strengthen American manufacturing.

Joseph Sylvestro, Pratt’s vice president of manufacturing operations, and Rob Friedland, Proton’s president and CEO, were among the 30 private sector leaders named to the council’s 2015-2016 charter team.

The council was established in 2004 to discuss problems and propose solutions to industry-related problems, specifically advising the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on ways to ensure the U.S. is the preeminent destination for manufacturing investment.

The council is chosen from a cross-section of U.S. manufacturing industry sectors, including different geographic regions and businesses of varying size.
