Pratt gets $6.8M contract extension

East Hartford jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney said Thursday that it received a $6.8 million contract extension from the U.S. Air Force to continue managing engines powering some of the Italian Air Force’s fighter planes, The Associated Press reports.

The U.S. and Italy are cooperating to maintain the planes. The 18-month extension covers maintenance work by Pratt & Whitney through 2012.

Pratt & Whitney, which has provided support for flight operations in Italy for eight years, is part of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
