Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower Geared Turbofan PW1500G engine has received certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
The PW1500G powers the Bombardier C Series aircraft family. The EASA certification covers the PW1519G, PW1520G, PW1524G and PW1525G engine thrust variants. The engines were certified by Transport Canada in Feb. 2013 and are assembled at Pratt & Whitney Canada’s Mirabel Aerospace Centre in Mirabel, Quebec. UTC Aerospace Systems provides the nacelle system.
A company official said the validation is a key program milestone that allows Pratt to deliver engines to Swiss Air. The PW1500G engine will enter into customer service on the CS100 on July 15 as part of the Swiss Air fleet.
Earlier in May, the engine won U.S. clearance to power a Russian fleet of single-aisle jetliners.
The Federal Aviation Administration certified the Pratt PurePower PW1400G-JM engine to power airframe builder Irkut Corp.’s MC-21 aircraft.
