East Hartford aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney said it has delivered the first set of engines for a Boeing tanker jet that can refuel planes in midair.
The United Technologies subsidiary’s PW4062 engines will propel the KC-46 tanker, which Boeing is building for the Pentagon to replace a fleet of Stratotankers also built by Boeing.
Boeing plans to deliver 18 of the tankers to the Air Force by 2017.
Pratt said the program, if fully exercised, could result in ordered for 368 engines through 2027.
