A rocket powered by a partnership involving Pratt & Whitney’s rocket-motor division and a Russian manufacturer propelled a U.S. military missile-defense satellite into orbit over the weekend.
The Atlas V rocket powered by Pratt & Whitney on Saturday carried into space the nation’s first Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous satellite (SBIRS GEO 1) for early-warning missile detection.
The mission was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida by the RD AMROSS RD-180 booster engine.
