PR firm inks five-year downtown New Haven lease

The Narrative Project, a public relations agency, has leased a 7,500-square-foot space in downtown New Haven for a five-year term.

The space is at 142 Temple St., Suite 305, and the agency hosted a ribbon-cutting in late May.

Mercy A. Quaye, founder and president, said it has an option to renew the lease for an additional five years, for a total of 10.

Financial terms of the lease were not disclosed.

The agency currently has 15 full-time employees, and Quaye said it is “looking to max out this space” with 25 workers.

Quaye launched the company in 2019, and it has plans to expand to Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Chicago in the next decade.

It is both a Black- and women-owned agency focused on telling stories, and it has partnered with several organizations fighting for equity, such as the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, ConnCAT and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. It provides a range of communications services, from press releases to consulting to speechwriting to editing.

With its continued growth, the agency looked for a larger space for its new home.

“We knew we were staying in New Haven, the only question was where,” Quaye said.

The Narrative Project ultimately decided on downtown to be close to City Hall and the New Haven Green, as Quaye notes that is where the “majority of protests and public actions happen.”

“As a social justice public relations agency, being near the action was important to us,” Quaye said, via email. “We also know that we wanted our office to be a sort of living room for the community – using our space to prep for those protests or have community conversations.”
