State employees and Connecticut-based tax professionals now have access to a new Post University course designed to boost participants’ tax expertise.
Post developed the three-credit course for both the public and state employees. The course covers personal and corporate income taxes, as well as excise and sales taxes specific to Connecticut.
The State Taxation Course is the only one of its kind offered in Connecticut, according to Post officials. The university is offering state employees who take it a 20% tuition reduction.
Post University Provost Elizabeth Johnson said faculty created the specialized curriculum for the tax community in Connecticut.
“This course is not only an investment in the professional development of state employees; it is a valuable tool to strengthen the local and state tax knowledge for practicing professionals,” she said.
Assistant Dean for Graduate Business Programs Alisa Hunt worked closely with Deputy Commissioner of the state Department of Revenue Services John Biello to develop the course.Â
The first State Taxation Course cohort began the online course in January. It will be open to state tax professionals and accountants in April.
“This is a wonderful continuing education opportunity for not only DRS employees but for those practicing tax professionals in Connecticut,” Biello said. “Post University’s dedication to the needs of its working professionals makes this course a perfect solution for practicing tax professionals in Connecticut. There is no other course within Connecticut focused on specific state and local tax laws.”
