Waterbury-based Post University plans to acquire American Sentinel University, which is based in Denver and offers courses to those seeking to work in the healthcare field.
Joan Huwiler, Post’s director of university communications, said Post hopes to close on the deal this spring.
Post officials declined to comment when asked about the financial terms of the deal. The merger is still subject to regulatory approvals.
American Sentinel has signed an agreement for the acquisition and merger. Once completed, it would become the “American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Post University.” It will no longer be an independent institution, but will offer the same programs, services, faculty and curriculum.
John L. Hopkins, president and CEO of Post University, said in an announcement that Post is eager to add American Sentinel’s fully online nursing and healthcare programs to its offerings.
“The addition of American Sentinel’s programs, administration, faculty and infrastructure as a division of Post University will allow the leveraging of strengths and talents to create additional educational opportunities for current and future students,” Hopkins said.
Mary Adams, president of American Sentinel University, said the merger will help ensure “growth and innovation.”
“Joining Post University will make us stronger, with access to enhanced support, expertise and resources,” Adams said in an announcement. “We believe our students, faculty, staff, healthcare partners and schools using our digital simulations will all benefit from this agreement.”
American Sentinel University delivers accredited online degree programs in nursing and healthcare management. Post University offers an array of degree programs to students who wish to pursue education both in-person and online.
