Connecticut authorities say a construction worker injured Tuesday in a Naugatuck bridge collapse is being moved by Life Star helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital, The Associated Press reports.
Department of Transportation spokesman Judd Everhart says the man, who hasn’t been identified, was conscious and talking when he was taken to Waterbury Hospital after a section of the Route 63 bridge collapsed at about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The man works for Southington-based Brunalli Construction, which is replacing the bridge over the Naugatuck River in a $24.5 million project.
Everhart says the affected part of the 586-foot span was closed to traffic when it collapsed as workers started to dismantle it.
Metro-North stopped commuter train service on its Waterbury line at the request of police and is running buses instead.
