Popeyes drive-thru proposed in Bloomfield

A developer is proposing a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen drive-thru restaurant in a Bloomfield shopping plaza, according to a zoning application.

The new restaurant would be built at Filley Pond Plaza at 40 Tunxis Ave., which is anchored by Geissler’s Supermarket. The Miami-based fast food chain is known for its fried chicken and biscuits.

The 2,500-square-foot restaurant would replace several parking spaces in the plaza’s parking lot. It would have a one-way entrance from Tunxis Avenue, along with a two-way entrance with a new stop sign from the parking lot of the plaza.

Twenty-four parking spaces are proposed, along with landscaping.

Pritam Patel of PN Restaurants, based in Rutherford, N.J., is seeking a special permit from the Planning and Zoning Commission to establish the restaurant, along with signage. The 8.6-acre shopping plaza, which has about a dozen businesses, is owned by Bloomfield Equities LLC of White Plains, N.Y.

A public hearing on the application is scheduled to take place during the Planning and Zoning Commission’s meeting Thursday, which starts at 7 p.m.
