Poll conducted for CBIA shows inflation as top concern of voters

A recent poll of 500 Connecticut registered voters conducted by Public Opinion Strategies for the Connecticut Business & Industry Association found that residents think inflation and state taxes/government spending are the two most pressing economic concerns.

The survey – conducted in the spring and released in late May to CBIA members – showed that when asked what the top two issues should be for 2022 political candidates, 65% of respondents said inflation and the cost of living should be the top concerns.

The survey showed that 48% of those polled said state taxes and government spending should be a top priority. Rounding out the field of top concerns were the economy and labor shortage (28%); healthcare affordability (27%); infrastructure and transportation (18%); and K-12 public education (11%).

In addition, the survey also took the pulse of voters on top challenges for young people and recent college graduates and their overall view of the state’s economy.

In addition, 48% said the high levels of debt, including student loans; 36% said high state taxes; 25% said the lack of good-paying jobs; and 11% said the lack of attractive, exciting, livable cities.

The political breakdown of those polled showed that 43% identified as independents, while 37% were registered Democrats and 20% were registered Republicans.
