Poll: Biz leaders and Conn. residents share same issues

A new poll shows that Connecticut residents are closely aligned with the business community when asked to define the most important issues facing the state.

The poll, conducted by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association and Zogby, found that residents believed taxes, economic growth, job creation, education and health were the most important issues facing the state. In particular, 90 percent of those polled said they are satisfied with their children’s education, but 85 percent supported raising academic standards. The CBIA has already stated its support for increased standards for high school graduation.

A majority of residents also believed that businesses taxes are too high in Connecticut and that the spending levels of the current state budget are too high. CBIA President and CEO John Rathberger said the poll proved the business community and residents have clearly identified the key issues and that “our elected leaders must listen to what the people of Connecticut are saying.”
