Polish newspaper opens NB office

White Eagle Media, publisher of the Polish language biweekly “Bialy Orzel,” has established a New Britain office for its Connecticut edition. It will support the company’s publications in Massachusetts, New York and Florida.

Darek Barcikowski, publisher and managing partner, said the move comes after being in Boston for 13 years. He said in a statement, “It is yet another enterprise to join over 70 Polish-owned business in what has become one of the largest Polish-American commercial and cultural hubs in the country.”

Barcikowski said the New Britain neighborhood bucks the trend when it comes to ethnic neighborhoods. He described it as thriving and growing ethnic neighborhood that attracts thousands of residents and tourists weekly. He pegged Connecticut’s Polish population at 300,000 – about 10 percent of the state’s residents.

The new office is located at 55 Broad St. on the second floor of the Polam Federal Credit Union building. A grand opening will be held on Feb. 9.
