Construction of a new police headquarters in downtown New Britain will begin in the coming months thanks to the state authorizing $10 million in bonds for the project.
The work will begin in November, thanks to the special bonding of the federal Recovery Zone Economic Development Bond program, which lowers the costs of financing for shovel-ready projects.
“This is an important project not only for its role in downtown development, but in upgrades to our public safety operations and presence in the community,” New Britain Police Chief William Gagliardi said in a statement. “We are thankful for the continued support of the Governor and state officials with our efforts, and look forward to them joining us for the groundbreaking in early November.”
In June 2009, the U.S. Treasury Department unveiled the Recovery Zone Bond program, authorized through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
