Platt appointed CT’s attorney for Waterbury

The state’s Criminal Justice Commission has appointed Maureen Platt to become the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Waterbury, The Associated Press reports.

Platt has been serving as acting state’s attorney since John Connelly retired in February amid health problems and a federal investigation into his ties to a defense attorney.

Platt first became a prosecutor in 1982 and later spent several years in private practice before returning to work for the state. She received the unanimous support of the commission, which interviewed 15 candidates for the job.

Since 2000, she had been assigned to Middletown, where she was a senior assistant state’s attorney handling serious criminal cases.
