A proposal by a Toronto real estate firm to convert the Residence Inn in Shelton into 96 apartments was given the green light on Wednesday night.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plan with a 4-1 vote and one abstention.
Bluevale Capital, doing business as CT03 LLC, plans to change the use of the hotel property at 1001 Bridgeport Ave., which was built in 1988, to multifamily housing without making any modifications to it. The 4.44-acre property consists of 14 buildings containing a total of 60,032 square feet, according to property records.
“Other than some additional parking, there are no changes to the existing extended-stay hotel site or buildings,” the application stated.
The property would have 116 parking spaces, and 19 units will be designated as affordable housing under the state’s 8-30g affordable housing statute.
Bluevale, which has corporate offices in New Haven, is under contract to purchase the property from Grand Prix Shelton LLC, the application said. Grand Prix Shelton is controlled by William Rumble, Paul Womble and Rickey Whitworth, all of Irving, Texas, state records show. They bought the property in 2007.
An email to Bluevale was not immediately returned.
