Fairfield’s Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday night denied without prejudice a developer’s plan to build 100 apartments on the former site of a Catholic school in Fairfield.
Easton developer Stephen Shapiro in March proposed building a five-story, 100-unit apartment building on the former site of St. Emery’s School, at 108 Biro St., according to plans filed with the city.
The 110,555-square-foot building would have 10 units with one bedroom and 10 units with two bedrooms on each floor. The application said 30 units would be designated as affordable housing under the state’s 8-30g affordable housing statute.
Shapiro said the application was denied without prejudice, which means he can come back with modifications to the proposal. He said the commission wants the plan to include a turnaround space for firetrucks.
He said he would include the requested turnaround space in the plan and resubmit the proposal.
“I’m going to be diligent and make sure it is done right,” he told the Hartford Business Journal. “I am going to get it done as expedited as possible.”
