A new Plainville-based pharmaceutical distribution company started by serial entrepreneur Lisa Wilson-Foley has opened for business and is already shipping medications to more than 480 patients in four towns within Connecticut.
The company, known as Medstat, officially opened its doors on Northwest Drive this month, and relies on pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other staff to fulfill retail pharmaceutical orders exclusively for nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.
The 17,500 square foot facility packages daily dosages of pharmaceuticals and mixes IVs for health care facilities.Â
Currently most of the state’s long-term care facilities have fulfillment contracts with a pharmacy.
Medstat’s business model, company officials said, is to be the fulfillment conduit for them, by providing more efficient service and saving the state and federal government in Medicare and Medicaid costs.
The company currently employs 30 people.
“We are staying ahead of industry trends with state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best patient care,” Wilson-Foley said. Â
