Pitney Bowes quietly relocates Connecticut headquarters

Mailing and shipping technology giant Pitney Bowes has quietly relocated its corporate headquarters from Stamford to Shelton, ending a more than century-long run in the state’s second-largest city, according to disclosures in the company’s latest annual report and regulatory filings.

Pitney Bowes said the headquarters relocation took effect Jan. 1, 2026, according to its annual filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company’s new corporate address is 27 Waterview Drive in Shelton, where it has had existing operations.

Its previous headquarters was at 3001 Summer St., in Stamford, where the company had been based since early 2014. Pitney Bowes disclosed that it decided in the fourth quarter of 2025 to close that corporate office, effective Dec. 31, 2025, recording a $7 million abandonment charge as a result of that move, according to its annual report.

Pitney Bowes had been headquartered in Stamford since its founding in 1920. Prior to moving to Summer Street, the company operated from its longtime corporate campus on Elmcroft Road, which it sold just over a decade ago.

The headquarters relocation comes as Pitney Bowes continues a multiyear restructuring aimed at lowering costs and strengthening its balance sheet amid declining demand for traditional mail-related products and evolving shipping and mailing needs.

Pitney Bowes provides mailing and shipping technology, postage meters, shipping software, mail-sorting services, and related financial offerings for business customers.

In a recent letter to shareholders, CEO Kurt Wolf described the headquarters move as part of broader efforts to simplify the company’s structure and streamline operations. He said the relocation aligns with what he characterized as a “cultural reset” within the organization.

Pitney Bowes reported fourth-quarter 2025 revenue of $478 million, down 7% from the year-ago period. The company posted net income of $27 million for the quarter, compared with a loss a year earlier. For the full year, revenue declined 7% to $1.89 billion, while net income totaled $145 million.

The company highlighted capital allocation and debt reduction as priorities. During the fourth quarter, Pitney Bowes repurchased 12.6 million shares for $127 million and reduced principal debt by $114 million.

Pitney Bowes has undertaken multiple restructuring initiatives and leadership changes in recent years. Wolf was appointed CEO in 2025 following a proxy battle and board reconstitution.

The company’s workforce has also declined. Pitney Bowes reported approximately 11,000 employees in 2023 and 10,500 employees in 2024. That figure fell to about 7,200 employees in 2025 and declined further to roughly 6,600 employees in its most recent annual report.

Pitney Bowes maintains a global footprint that includes administrative offices, mail sortation facilities, service locations, data centers and call centers. The company said it conducts research and development activities in Shelton, as well as in Noida and Pune, India.

It was not immediately clear whether the headquarters relocation will result in additional staffing or operational changes within Connecticut.

Pitney Bowes did not respond to a request for comment.
