Photronics sales dip on muted demand

Photronics Inc., which makes precision parts used in the manufacture of semiconductor and flat panel displays, reported a 6 percent drop in its third-quarter sales on what it said was muted demand for higher end products.

Sales were $109.7 million, down from $116.6 million a year ago. Profits also fell from $11 million to $5.9 million.

The Brookfield manufacturer reported sales declines in both types of its core product, known as photomasks, which are high-precision quartz plates that contain microscopic images of electronic circuits.

Semiconductor photomask sales were down 3 percent year over year while flat panel photomask sales were down 6.8 percent.
