Two days after a long-planned merger of The Phoenix Cos. was finalized, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin confirmed that the insurer’s chief financial officer is still on deck to become the city’s chief operating officer.
But he first had to wait for Phoenix’s $217 million merger with Nassau Reinsurance Group Holdings to be made final.
That happened on Monday, and Bronin formally nominated Malley, who worked on his mayoral transition team, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bronin also nominated Darrell Hill, who has been the city’s acting COO, to become the city’s CFO. He will oversee the city’s finance department and its Office of Management, Budget & Grants, which formerly reported to him as COO.
Both nominations are subject to city council approval, but Malley and Hill are otherwise set to begin their new jobs on July 5.
“Bonnie and Darrell both bring tremendous talent and experience and have already been important members of our team, and I will be asking a lot from both of them as we work to get Hartford’s house in order,” Bronin said. “I know that they both believe deeply in Hartford and in Hartford’s future, and share my commitment to addressing our challenges openly and directly.”
