Philadelphia police captain named Hartford’s next police chief

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam on Friday said he will appoint a Philadelphia police captain, Tyrell J. McCoy, as the capital city’s next chief of police.

McCoy currently commands the inspections bureau at Philadelphia Police Department.

Arulampalam said McCoy brings nearly two decades of law enforcement experience to the role.

“We are thrilled to welcome Captain McCoy to Hartford,” Arulampalam said. “His extensive experience, commitment to community engagement and innovative approach to public safety make him the ideal leader for our police department.
