The Mashantucket Pequot tribe said Wednesday its gay and lesbian employees will now share the same rights and protections as the rest of its casino workers.
The operators of Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods said the tribe also extended the protections to bisexual and transgender employees, partly coinciding with National Gay and Lesbian Pride Month in June.
The tribe also served up a historical context for expanding its civil and workplace rights policies.
“The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is no stranger to discrimination and the struggle for dignity and equality, dating as far back as the early 17th century,” said Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises Chief Marketing Officer Robert Victoria, said in a statement.
The Mohegan Tribe says it has similar protections on sexual and gender preference in place for the last seven years for its casino workers. Â
